Brandywine: almost all tomato
This Brandywine beefsteak tomato grew large enough for us to fetch a tape measure. 5½ inches across and about as deep.
I had hoped to save plenty of seed from it to donate to Moffat Seed Library, but when I cut it open, there were about five seeds inside the whole enormous fruit. It was, apparently, concentrating on being tomato. And, to be honest, doing a pretty good job of it. It swamps the beefburger it was grown for.
David’s delighted that I’m finally growing the sort of tomato he loves, even if the beefburger is struggling. There are many, many more, so this may be the year I finally grow enough tomatoes for him.
